1:25am – Report that the roof of the Salishan Lodge is on fire. Fire units are enroute.
1:35am – The Salishan Lodge is evacuated. The fire continues to spread across the roof. Units now on scene say it’s a chimney fire that has spread to the roof. Working fire.
1:36am – Mutual aid from Lincoln City and Newport Fire Departments is being requested.
1:38am – Request now for a ladder truck from North Lincoln Fire. Depoe Bay Fire crew is going to try to hit the fire with a big blast from a water cannon atop their fire truck.
1:53am – North Lincoln Fire ladder truck is about two miles out. Inbound to the fire scene.
1:55am – North Lincoln Fire ladder truck has arrived. Pulled along side the lodge, raising “the stick” in the air and preparing to fight the fire from above.
1:56am – Fire has spread across the roof and into the interior attic areas.
1:59am – Fire Command post wants the ladder truck to get up in the air and give a visual report of fire behavior from an aerial perspective.
2:09am – Calling for another Depoe Bay Fire Unit to come to the scene as further backup.
2:10am – Sounds like they’re getting a handle on it.
2:11am – Newport Firefighters are working the fire from inside the building.
2:12am – Fire Command is calling for turning off the building sprinklers. Could be to minimize water damage.
2:16am – Fire Command is directing outside water attack from the west side of the roof as well as the south side, close in to the chimney.
2:18am – Lodge sprinklers are shut off to minimize water damage.
2:20am – Sounds like the worst is over.
2:34am – Fire Command says they have the fire beaten back toward the chimney. There are still small pockets of fire in and around the chimney area. Firefighters are moving in to contain them but with emphasis on minimizing water damage.
2:47am – Firefighters are mopping up.
3:06am – Fire Command requests the state fire marshal to come to the scene to investigate the fire. She should arrive later in the morning to rendezvous with Fire Command for a thorough going over of the incident.
