The Oregon Red Cross has set up a shelter at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds in Newport, for those who have been affected by the severe weather we’ve all endured the last week. They have set up their shelter in the fairgrounds Horticulture Building where people can come for a hot meal, a warm place to sleep or just to warm-up and relax. There is a children’s play area to keep them occupied. And they are providing personal hygiene toiletries, and cleaning supplies for those whose homes have been dirtied by the wind, rain and mud.
The fairgrounds are located just east of Newport High School.
The Lincoln County Fairgrounds Warming Center is gearing up for another cold night as they provide the homeless a warm place to sleep in a secure environment with food. The Warming Center needs two volunteers for the early Tuesday morning shift that runs from 2:45am to 6am. Call Joanna Williams at 708-983-9177.
