The disabled logging truck that was blocking traffic at mp 23.4 near Eddyville has been pulled to the side of the road. Traffic is getting through but it’s been backed up for quite a while. Will take time to clear.
As you can see, courtesy of the photographic eye of Michael Burroughs, ODOT is busy at work rebuilding the hillside that slumped out from under Highway 101 just north of the Newport Airport. In one shot you can see how the excavators have dug out the hard-bottom of the slide and have begun filling in its tow with big river rock. Spaces between the tightly packed boulders will be filled in with gravel and that will fortify the “set.” Then they’ll terrace in the dirt to complete the fix.
They are buuuuusy!
Thank you Michael!!!!
The roads over the coastal passes resemble those up in the Cascades…snow covered and icy. Therefore chains are required for all vehicles traveling Highways 18, 20, and 34. Highway 34 has snow and packed snow.
ODOT reports that the crash is partially blocking the eastbound lane just west of Philomath but eastbound traffic is getting by the incident. Westbound traffic is unaffected but use an extra helping of caution when driving through the area. Minor delays are possible as tow trucks maneuver into place to remove the wreck.

ODOT says they’ll be inspecting bridges on Highway 229 (Siletz Highway) on Wednesday, November 30th, which may slow traffic to the point it pushes back on the intersection of HIghway 20 and 229. So they want everyone to be extra careful this coming Wednesday. The hours of the bridge inspection this Wednesday is between 9am and 3pm between the intersection of Highway 20, north for four miles or so.
Motorists on 229 should expect single lane restrictions with flaggers controlling traffic. And again, expect traffic slowing or congestion at 20 and 229 anytime during the day Wednesday.
