Provided by Seafood and Wine
Newport Area Chamber of Commerce

The 35th annual Newport Seafood & Wine Festival is just weeks away, and the Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce and the Seafood & Wine Festival Committee are finalizing details for the largest event of its kind on the Oregon Coast. Committee members are seeking volunteers (MUST be 21 years or older) who will be able to work (minimum) four hour shifts in one of the following areas: Cashier, Clicker/Counter, Check-In Assist, Re-Entry Stamp, Wine Glasses, Committee Tent Helpers, and Chamber Booth Helpers.

This year’s Festival will be held in two connected tents adjacent to the Rogue Brewery, 2320 OSU Drive. Overall, this premier event will feature Northwest wines, seafood, arts and crafts, as well as Commercial and Amateur Wine Competitions and a Wine Tasting.

So far, Thursday’s work shift has been filled, but there are a number of slots still available during Friday, Saturday and Sunday. As a token of appreciation, volunteers will receive a commemorative wine glass and FREE admission for Friday through Sunday’s event.

Chinook Winds: Major sponsor for Seafood and Wine

Chinook Winds Hotel-Casino, Lincoln City

Getting Acquainted With Chinook Winds Casino Resort
Provided by Newport Area Chamber of Commerce

Chinook Winds Casino Resort’s roots began in Lincoln County in 1995, when the Siletz Tribe opened a 10,000 square foot temporary gaming facility on land that was part of the original Coast Reservation. The following year a permanent 159,000 square foot structure was built and the casino resort as we know it began to take shape.

Although gaming is a key component, with about 1,100 slot machines, blackjack, craps, keno, poker, roulette and more for guests to enjoy, it certainly is not the “sum of all Chinook Winds Casino Resort’s parts.” This Resort also offers the largest convention center on the Oregon Coast. The facility accommodates major indoor events like MMA competitions, amateur boxing, national pool tournaments, and fundraisers. Headline entertainment such as comedy acts, concerts and outdoor events are also regular features at the convention center. Each year the Siletz Tribe celebrates their Restoration Pow-Wow. Unlike other Pow-Wows, this event celebrates the signing of the law that established relations between the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians and the federal government. The Siletz Tribe was the first in Oregon to regain federal recognition, and the Tribe’s Pow-Wow takes place at the convention center. (more…)

Chinook Winds Casino Resort Secures E-Ticket Sponsorship

Earlier this month, Chinook Winds Casino Resort was successful in their bid to become the 2012 Newport Seafood & Wine Festival Presenting Sponsor. Now in a rare move, they have taken on the responsibility of the E-Ticket Sponsorship as well. The Newport Chamber of Commerce is delighted to be working with such a generous community partner. Both the Chamber of Commerce and Chinook Winds Casino Resort which are located in Lincoln County realize the extreme benefit that the Seafood & Wine Festival brings to the central Oregon Coast during the winter months.

Each year, on-line ticketing has increased in popularity because of easy access to the Festival tent. For Festival attendees, a dedicated gate for E-Ticket holders means “no waiting in line” to gain entrance to the venue. Fire marshal requirements demand that only a specific number of people may be inside the tent at any given time. In the past, this meant that those waiting to purchase tickets at the gate might have to wait until tent numbers dropped. E-Ticket holders have the advantage of being “counted” for the day, meaning they can enter the tent, regardless of which the time of day they arrive.

For the first time ever, this year’s E-Ticket will feature a special item. In addition Festival admittance, a voucher will be included that may be redeemed at Chinook Winds Casino Resort. The Newport Chamber of Commerce is pleased with Chinook Winds’ efforts to make an E-Ticket purchase so beneficial.

You may now buy tickets by logging on to www.newportchamber.org. Tickets for Thursday’s premier opening are selling fast. Limited sales are available for that evening, so if you are planning to attend this exclusive showing of the Festival, early purchase is recommended.
