A Brinks armored car left Highway 20 this morning winding up in a ditch just east of Fruitvale Road, between Newport and Toledo. There were at least two Brinks employees aboard. The driver is seen through the front windshield still inside per regulations, staying in control of the contents of the vehicle.
Brinks headquarters in Portland said they were dispatching a representative and a tow truck but local law enforcement said they were seeking permission to remove the vehicle temporarily so it doesn’t pose a traffic hazard for Highway 20 motorists. They were awaiting word back on that. Armored vehicles weigh between 13 and 27 tons (all that armament) – a challenge for any local tow company.
No word on what caused the accident.
