Friends of Toledo family Travis and Katie James are planning a fundraising event to be held at Pig Feathers BBQ and Twisted Snout Brewery in Toledo on Sunday, December 8 from 11 am to 8 pm.
Travis is suffering from Stage 4 Esophogeal Cancer. The cancer is terminal and Travis is currently in hospice care. He and Katie have four young children.
The family has been racking up thousands of dollars a week in medical bills in their months-long fight against the cancer. “Team Travis,” which has a Facebook page, has been active since February raising money to help the family. A fund at Oregon branches of OSU Federal accepts donations under the name of Travis and Katie James.
Items are being collected from businesses and individuals throughout the area for a silent auction that will go on all day long on December 8. Donations of items for the silent auction may be dropped off at Pig Feathers. Additionally, on the day of the event, Pig Feathers will donate $2 for every meal sold and Twisted Snout will donate $2 for every draft beer sold. Between now and the date of the event, customers at the restaurant and brewery may add any amount to their check to be donated to the family.
The group is also seeking donations of Christmas gifts for the family and commitments to provide meals over the coming few weeks. Those interested in helping with this effort may pick up a gift tag or sign up for a meal delivery at Pig Feathers BBQ, 300 S. Main St. in Toledo, between 11 am and 8 pm daily, or contact Becky Miller at firstname.lastname@example.org.
