The Newport Young Professionals gathered on Sunday, November 3rd at Muggly’s bowling alley in Toledo to “Bowl for Hunger”. Attendees came bearing donations of canned food items with the goal of stocking the shelves of the Newport Food Pantry during the Holiday season. Three large tubs were filled with non-perishable food items that amounted to 318 pounds of food donated to the Pantry.
Katherine Myers of the Newport Food Pantry & Operation Snack Packs commented, “This comes at a wonderful time as those employed in seasonal industries are experiencing a dramatic reduction in their work hours. We are also meeting a lot of families with children who are living in cars, tents, and RV’s. What a treat for them to come to the pantry and have such a wide variety of food items available.”
The Young Professionals is a group within the Newport Chamber of Commerce that focuses on Civic projects, social networking events and opportunities to support local Chamber businesses. “Bowling for Hunger” was a successful event for the Yo-Pros as it drew together young professionals from the area to support a very deserving cause.
