This year, Toledo’s Annual Hometown Holidays event on December 14th will take on an historic flair as we celebrate our first Dickens Christmas. To help you get ready, this Saturday, November 9th, SolaLuna Gallery will be hosting a free costume workshops at our store at 147 N. Main Street in Toledo.
Dickens era costume examples will be on display for you to see, play with or get dressed up in and have a free picture taken. We will also have costume books and photographs to look at. We have free materials to share with a special thank you to the Methodist Women’s Thrift shop for their generous donations of supplies.
It’s easier than you think to make a costume. Did you know there are simple theatrical costume ideas you can make in an afternoon from existing clothing? We’ll show you how and get you started. If you’re more advanced, we have free patterns and advice for making your own period costumes.
We will have two sessions:
Session 1 – 11:00am to 5:00pm
Worktables will be open all day to work on your own costumes. Feel free to bring your own sewing machine. Sarah Gayle will be available all day to help get you started right.
Session 2 – 6:00pm to 10:00pm
We’re planning a hands-on work party! BYOB (Bring Your Own Bonnet) and a snack to share and work with Alice Haga and Sarah Gayle to make free projects like bonnets and muffs to hand out to visitors on December 14th. You can also continue to work on your own costume with our help.
Visit us November 9th to get inspired and have some fun with your neighbors.
