The Newport Symphony Orchestra is once again ringing in the holiday season in December with a Holiday Home Tour in Newport. This special fundraiser for the Symphony will inspire and uplift, sharing the beauty of the Yaquina Bay and the festive nature of the season. Visitors will tour four homes and the Pacific Heritage and Maritime Center decorated for the holidays, listen to music of the season, and indulge in delicious flavors at the Tour’s bake sale.
The event will be held Saturday, December 7, from 11:00 to 4:00 and again on Sunday, December 8, from noon to 4:00. Proceeds from the Tour will help fund Newport Symphony Orchestra activities, including their sponsored youth programs. The NSO recognizes the support of US Bank as its title sponsor this year.
The Holiday Home Tour will feature homes strategically situated with majestic views of Yaquina Bay, including its fishing fleet, the iconic Yaquina Bay Bridge, and surrounding hills.
The Fleet View home is nestled among the firs and alders on a hillside surveying the NOAA ships. This charming two story home has two fireplaces and will feature a dollhouse decorated for the season to delight everyone.
The Bridge View home, built in 1949, points west to the Yaquina Bay Bridge, and will be traditionally decorated by Sioux Boston in greens, cranberry, and silver accents, fitting to the era of the house. It presents a traditional Christmas with nutcrackers and antiques. The house was built by a local fisherman so his wife could watch him come and go to sea, thus the spectacular view of the bridge.
The Vista View house decorated by Larry Tapanen, who did last year’s spectacular residence in Beverly Beach, will again bring his magic of Christmas tradition and whimsy to this contemporary modern home. A special delight is the presence of many simple and soulful Willow Tree angels.
The newly constructed Scenic View house, with a commanding view of Yaquina Bay, has a magnificent great room with all the new contemporary finishes. Three delightfully decorated Christmas trees are placed throughout the home. Decorated by Kim McKnight in natural tones with accents of colors, pine cones, ribbons and garlands, the house provides an eclectic, yet traditional feel of Christmas throughout the home.
Musical ambiance will fill both days at the Pacific Maritime & Heritage Center, the tour’s gathering stop. Music will be provided by vocal and instrumental musicians. Tour guests will be able to tour the Center and enjoy its history and this spectacular building. At the Center visitors will be able to buy delectable holiday cakes and breads at the bake sale, as part of the fundraiser for the Symphony.
The Newport Symphony Orchestra brings the rich experience of symphonic music to our community, now offering concerts on both Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Its members and conductor, Adam Flatt, work with students in local schools to instill an understanding and appreciation for symphonic music. The NSO directly supports a symphonic music experience for young people on the coast through the Newport Youth Orchestra on the Oregon Coast.
Tickets are $18 per person in advance and $20 the days of the Tour. Tickets will go on sale November 1 at JC Market in Newport and at the Newport Performing Arts Center box office. Tickets will be available at the Pacific Heritage and Maritime Center on the days of the Tour.
