The Oregon Safe Schools and Communities Coalition, which works to support gay and lesbian youth, raise awareness of their health and safety needs, has announced its 2013 Safe School Awards.
And Newport High School is on their list.
Ten awards were given in connection with the second annual State of the Safe Schools Act report. The Oregon Safe Schools Act defines cyber-bullying, harassment, intimidation and bullying in very clear terms. It requires school districts to adopt anti-bullying policies which includes retaliation against bullying victims and witnesses, and allows victims to pursue legal action under other laws.
