Newport to near Cape Foulweather: 101 paving creates more temporary delays. Storms push paving Newport south to Waldport into next Spring
From Rick Little, PIO, ODOT
Early winter-type storms have pushed part of ODOT’s ambitious Highway 101 paving plans into next spring. ODOT’s Rick Little says they’ll finish the job between Newport and Beverly Beach, but that will be it for the season. They simply ran out of time to launch Highway 101 paving projects from Newport (Lost Creek) through Seal Rock and a stretch of 101 just north of Waldport.
In the meantime…
Continuing construction on a paving project north of Newport will result in lane restrictions the rest of this week and into next week, depending on weather conditions.
A contractor for ODOT continues to place delineators along the highway. In addition, magnetic detectors will be placed in the asphalt at signalized intersections and roadway striping will laid down to complete the project. The work needs to be performed during daytime hours and is weather dependent.
During this construction, motorists should plan lane restrictions creating 5-20 minute delays with traffic controlled by flaggers.
A separate paving job on US 101 from the Highway 18 interchange to just north of the Lincoln/Tillamook County line was completed earlier in the summer.
