Prison and sentencing reforms mean 500 fewer inmates in Oregon prisons over next two years

Due to some sentencing rule and legislative changes, Oregon’s prison system is expecting to be incarcerating 500 fewer inmates over the next two years. Prison officials say it will allow the system to back off building a new prison in the upper Willamette Valley, or bringing already moth-balled prisons back on line.
