The first ever Oregon Coast Gravel Epic will take place on Saturday, October 5 (rain or shine!)
This epic cycling adventure will challenge the strongest riders, whether you choose the Abomination course (73 miles, 10,000 feet elevation gain) or the Son of Abomination (37 miles, 5,000 feet of elevation gain).
The race takes place on mostly gravel roads (and some rough paved) through the Siuslaw National Forest, starting at the old Waldport High School at Crestline and Hwy 34. All riders will start together, heading up Crestline before turning east to Eckman Creek Road. Abomination riders will peel off at the top of Canal Creek Road and then head out toward Five Rivers, Buck Creek Road, south toward Cape Perpetua and back down Keller Creek Road to the Yachats River Road, turn right on Beamer and back to the finish line. Son of Abomination riders will continue on Eckman, come down the 5300 to Yachats River Road, up Beamer and back to the finish.
Course marshals and lots of signs will direct the riders and warn motorists that there is a cycling event taking place. The race organizers will provide maps and cue sheets to the riders; additional support is provided by Green Bike of Waldport (technical support), Bike Newport (mechanical support), C&K Market (food and water), and Umpqua Bank (food, water, ice cream!)
