What were believed to be two Toledo area residents were badly injured in a single vehicle accident on SW Butler Bridge Road Friday afternoon. Witnesses told NewsLincolnCounty.com that the gray Dodge SUV had just cleared the south end of Butler Bridge Road bridge when it seemed to straighten out the curve just up the hill. The vehicle went off on the right shoulder and just kept going, leaving a long track through the grass and brush and into a ravine – some of which it flew right over – and into a tree. The impact very seriously injured both the male and female inside. Both had to be extricated from the vehicle which had rolled but landed on its wheels, being held up by smaller trees and heavy brush.
Once out of the vehicle and on solid ground, paramedics began to try to stabilize them both. Their injuries were severe. They were loaded aboard two separate ambulances. Both went to Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport.
No word on what caused the vehicle to leave the road so abruptly. Toledo Police is handling the case and a news release is expected shortly.
