A Toledo resident on a hunting trip in eastern Oregon for the past week will sadly return to find his home damaged pretty much beyond repair. The residence, at 1188 SE 18th, burned very quickly. It’s an older home.
Neighbors saw smoke and then suddenly tall flames shooting skyward from the middle of the home’s bedroom area at around 7:10 Friday morning. No one was inside and there were no pets in the house.
Fire units from Newport and Siletz provided additional assistance for Toledo Firefighters as they fought the rapidly growing flames. Fire Chief Will Ewing said from a preliminary assessment, the fire appears to have erupted in one of the northwest bedrooms. He said there is extensive fire and smoke damage throughout the whole house.
