Michael Czarnecki reading in Newport, part of the “Poems Across America Tour”

Poet and small press publisher Michael Czarnecki is on a “Poems Across America” tour in the United States, giving one reading in each of the lower 48 states. His only reading in Oregon will take place at Cafe Mundo in Newport on Sunday, September 29 from 3-5pm at Cafe Mundo, corner Coast Street and 2nd in Nye Beach. It’s a free event.

Michael’s 14-week tour started in Maine on Tuesday, August 13 and his final reading will take place near his home in upstate New York on November 17, his 63rd birthday. The reading in Newport will be the 19th on the tour.

“This is a tour I have dreamt about for a number of years and have finally turned it into reality,” says Michael.

Besides being a poet and small press publisher, Michael is an oral memoirist who founded FootHills Publishing in 1986. Since then, FootHills has released more than 400 chapbooks and books of poetry by writers throughout America and beyond. His work is published in a dozen chapbooks and books, including his Twenty Days on Route 20. He has been making his living solely through the creative word for nearly two decades. Michael has given hundreds of featured readings throughout America and has taken many cross-country poetic journeys, though none as extensive as this. Some have taken to calling him “Michael Poetseed” because of his many journeys throughout America. When not on the poetic road, Michael lives with his wife and sons on their 50-acre Wheeler Hill homestead in upstate New York.

The website includes poems, interviews, a list of books available and more bio info, as well as a tour schedule. Michael will also add regular updates to the website, words and photos, while on the tour.
