The White House – President Obama will veto proposed House proposal on O&C Lands – “Environmental costs far too high…”
The Obama Administration has slammed the door on an O&C Forestlands proposal pushed by Oregon Representative Kurt Schrader and others that would put those lands in a category that would allow much heavier logging than has been legal over the past 20 years.
The White House said President Obama will veto any bill that reclassifies O&C lands so they’re not managed under federal forest environmental protection regulations. Another O&C bill authored by U.S. Senator Ron Wyden seeks a middle road approach to the dilemma, but his office says they’re not sure the White House will go for it based on the strong language in the veto threat and the insistence that U.S. Forest Service rules will not be sacrificed.
