Registration is now open for Newport’s longest running community running event, the 30th annual Free Flight 5K, 10K and Kids Mile to be held on Sunday, October 13th. This event, brought to you by the non-profit Coast Hills Running Club, begins with packet pickup and day of race registration at the Port of Newport Marina and RV Park Activities Room in South Beach.
The course is a scenic, paved course on the jetty, along the bay and HMSC nature trail, and is flat, fast and fun. Runners and walkers of all abilities are welcome and encouraged to register and participate! The 5K and 10K races are followed by the Kids Mile, then the traditional potato and chili feed and the presentation of awards.
There are several ways to register this year – either go online to http://www.getmeregistered.com/ and search for Free Flight, or visit http://coasthillsrunningclub.com/freeflight.html for mail-in registration or online link.
Registration forms can also be picked up from Newport Chamber of Commerce, Newport Recreation Center, or ME Fitness Center in Newport. The 30+ year old Coast Hills Running Club is dedicated to sponsoring and promoting local running events and young athletes, youth running, and in general, the promotion of running. Fees are kept low to encourage participation. 100% of proceeds go toward supporting youth running in Lincoln County.
