Two time U.S. Olympian Sean O’Neill and Oregon State Champion Tim Aikey appeared together at the Newport Recreation Center to impress and thoroughly “wow” the crowd with superlative tabletop skill and style.
O’Neill and Aikey played an exhibition game at center court which was electrifying to watch, even if an observer knew nothing about the sport.
O’Neill is a two time U.S. Olympian, five time Men’s Singles, Doubles and Mixed Champion, three time U.S. Paralympic Coach, NBC-TV Commentator for the Soeul, Athens, Beijing and London Olympics.
Tim Aikey is the current Oregon State Singles Champion, and Member of the National Collegiate Team of Champions at Texas Wesleyan University.
After a spirited dual between the two, O’Neill and Aikey played a little one on one with members of the Senior 60+ Activity Center Table Tennis Club – club members making a little headway due to the graciousness of their “opponents.”
For those serious about enhancing their table tennis skills, one-on-one workshops were conducted by O’Neill and Aikey. You can bet that afterwards, those 60+ Activity Center Table Tennis Club Members and general members of the public now can’t wait to show off what they’ve learned.
