The Devils Lake Water Improvement District wants everyone to know that the lake is experiencing a pretty healthy algae surge these days. Six areas of the lake are now in the “No water contact” condition. Those areas are the D-River outlet, the Devils Lake Regatta Grounds, off Neotsu at K Street, off Sand Point, NE Arm Street and East Thumb.
The Devils Lake Water Improvement District strongly recommends that recreation use of these areas be avoided. Moderate health risks prevail in ALL other areas of the lake.
Water contact under these conditions can cause rashes or irritation. Severe injestion can lead to diarrhea, nausea, cramps, fainting, numbness, dizziness, tingling and in some instances paralysis and even death. Children and pets are most at risk.
