Good news coming from North Lincoln Fire Captain Jim Kusz this afternoon that Sadie, the dog that bolted from her owner’s burning condo at the Sea Gypsy early Saturday morning is fine. Sadie was found by the crew at the Shady Cove Inn. Sadie had been spotted by several people in the area but they couldn’t catch up with her.
Sadie’s owner is doing fine as well after a quick trip to the hospital for some burns to her hands as she tried in vain to put out the fire that erupted in her room at the Sea Gypsy at around 2:40am, Saturday.
Twenty-one units were damaged either by fire, smoke or water. It’s expected to take a number of months to make all the repairs. Many of the units are owned by out of town property owners who stand to take a big income loss on their properties which they rent out short and long term.
There was a concern at one point that because the Sea Gypsy used to be a hotel, which has since been converted to privately owned vacation rentals that by being a non-conforming use it could not get a building permit. That concern has been laid to rest by virtue of the city’s non-conforming regulations. Because less than half of the Sea Gypsy was damaged, building permits will be issued for all the necessary repairs.
