Fire swept through an upper floor of the Sea Gypsy Hotel/Condo complex, at 145 NW Inlet early this morning in Lincoln City.
Firefighters were battling the blaze during the 3am hour at the hotel at 145 NW Inlet just north of the D River Wayside. North Lincoln Fire Rescue Captain Jim Kusz says the fire erupted at 2:49am in room 304 and spread to several others. Lincoln City Police and firefighters went door to door pulling people out of rooms, some having to simply get out, leaving their belongings inside.
The lone resident in unit 304 woman suffered burns to her hands when she tried to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher. She was transported to North Lincoln Hospital.
There is considerable water damage to units on both sides of and below Room 304. Captain Kusz said there was also additional water damage from a hotel water pipe that broke which brings the total number of damaged rooms to 21 out of the 81 in the complex. Repairs are expected to take months.
No cause yet determined. Kusz says they’ll be working to determine the cause through the weekend and will probably have more on the fire a bit later.
People are asked to keep an eye out for the burn victim’s dog, a golden retriever named Sophie. It was spotted in the area earlier today.
