Calling all future Yo Yo Mas! The Youth Symphony of the Oregon Coast (YSOC) is looking for new members!
The Youth Symphony of the Oregon Coast is recruiting children who have experience playing string, wind or brass instruments. Come join the fun and camaraderie of fellow student musicians in an orchestral setting. Playing with YSOC is a great way to make new friends, gain experience, and build a college resume. Best of all, YSOC members have fun making music together!
To accommodate all levels of string players, the orchestra is divided into two groups. YSOC is a full orchestra made up of intermediate and advanced string musicians, as well as players of wind and brass instruments. Less experienced string players participate in the Overture Strings group. Both groups meet twice a month on Saturdays (YSOC at 5-7pm and Overture Strings at 4-6pm). See the Newport Symphony Orchestra website for a list of rehearsal dates.
Performances will be held on December 14, 2013 and May 3, 2014.
To kick off the season, YSOC will hold a family meet-and-greet picnic event on Saturday, September 14th in Newport from 3:30 – 5:30pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 412 12th Street. Come and learn what this fun music program has to offer. Bring your instruments and your dinner; drinks and desserts will be provided. This will be an opportunity to meet the conductors, other YSOC members and their families, and also to try out some of the music that has been selected for the year.
Please RSVP for the picnic to Melody Lavrakas 541-574-0899 or firstname.lastname@example.org. For more information about YSOC, visit the “Education” section of the Newport Symphony Orchestra website: http://newportsymphony.org/
