After The Oregonian beats the drums for months, a legislative committee appears ready to shine some light on the matter.
The Shepherds Flat Wind Farm up the Columbia River Gorge has been featured in a series of Oregonian articles outlining what the newspaper says is a clear giveaway of Oregon taxpayer dollars to some of the biggest corporations in the country. When the newspaper tried to get its hands on the evaluation of the project which received $30 million in subsidies, for which the paper claims it was only eligible for $10 million, the Department of Energy supervisor declared the evaluation was secret under attorney-client privilege.
But now it appears that enough yelling and screaming about all this has produced sufficient discomfort for a number of Oregon lawmakers. They now now plan to convene legislative hearings next month to try to get to the bottom of it.
