The Port of Alsea‘s 2nd Annual Crab Derby begins this Saturday, 10amm, in Waldport.
Port Commissioners and volunteers will be tagging and releasing Dungeness Crab in Alsea Bay late Friday afternoon. Recreational crabbers who catch a tagged crab can enter the Port’s Crab Derby by purchasing a Derby entry at the Port Office. The Derby will end on Saturday, September 7th when the winners of the Crab Derby’s cash prizes will be drawn, followed by a raffle for a number of prizes donated by community businesses.

Activities down at the Port:
-Crabbing Demonstrations by Oregon State Parks & Recreation Department
-Crab Pot Making Demonstrations by The Pot Shop, new pots for sale.
-Used Crabbing & Fishing Gear Sale, to benefit the Port of Alsea Crab Derby
-Dr. Steve Rumrill, ODF&W Shellfish Program Leader will be on hand to answer questions about the local crab fisheries and crab in general.
Dock of the Bay Marina will have fresh crab on special for $8/lb., fresh seafood, and a daily winner-takes-all contest for the largest and heaviest crab caught!
Check out the seafood on the menus of our local restaurants: the Salty Dawg, Lazy Dayz Café, and Azul Mexican restaurant. Live music at Azul’s from 5 to 8 p.m.!
