A man visiting the coast reportedly fell down into the ever-roiling Devil’s Churn just south of Yachats Sunday evening. The 9-1-1 call came just as the sun was setting below the ocean horizon. Because Devil’s Churn can be violent even when waves are near calm, Yachats Fire Rescue raced south toward the scene which is about 2 miles south of town off Highway 101.
When Yachats Fire Rescue pulled up into the parking lot they learned that the man was rescued by a number of people who helped him back onto dry land. Rescue personnel checked him out in the parking lot and determined he was not only unscathed by the ordeal but also just plain lucky he wasn’t seriously injured or killed.
