A sizable barbecue and community picnic Saturday triggered a nice celebration of a considerable amount of artistry directed by the children of Yachats on the west wall of the Yachats Commons building. The mural outside was commissioned by the Yachats Youth and Family Activities Program and was said to be entirely the vision of participating children. Artist Quahira Lynn said “All I did was put all their ideas together and paint them all on the wall. The kids wanted whales, unicorns, birds, flowers, pirate ships, hot air balloons, a bag of mints, beavers, ducks, cats, dogs, fish, bubbles, kites, the ocean, forest, the sun and moon, and portraits of themselves and so more…”
And as you can see, it’s all up there…especially the “more” part!
The community barbecue and mural dedication was followed by a round or two of frisbee golf by Peace Park. Another clear demonstration of why it’s special to live in and visit Yachats!
