The Port of Toledo’s 9th Annual Wooden Boat Show runs today and tomorrow on Toledo’s waterfront. This year the show honors the lifetime contribution to boat making and maintenance to boatyard owner Ralph Criteser, who, for nearly 70 years, has contributed to our Yaquina River Boating Heritage.
Wooden boats of all sizes and shapes will be on display in the water and on land. The Yaquina Run-ff, a non-motorized boat race will be held on Saturday. There is both a long and short course and is open to single and tandem rower/paddlers.
The GP Containerboard Boat Contest will also pit those from throughout the region who build their own watercraft from containerboard and then paddle their hearts out to win the bragging rights. The Newport City Council will be competing against the Toledo City Council in a spirited, if not daunting display, of propulsive and navigational prowess.
There’s also a river poker run for those with their own boats and still remember what a good poker hand is. But even if you don’t have a boat, you can borrow one, complete with life jackets, at the boathouse.
