Hannah Anderson is OK but her abductor was shot dead by FBI officer
The long and deadly saga for a Southern California family is over. Hannah Anderson is safe but her abductor James DiMaggio was killed by an FBI agent during a confrontation in the Idaho wilderness.
DiMaggio was a family-friend-turned-killer as he torched his own house near San Diego, a fire that killed 16 year old Hannah’s 8 year old brother Ethan and her mother. Hanna and DiMaggio went missing and many Amber Alert callers said they had seen them in Northern California and southern Oregon. Their car was discovered abandoned in a south Idaho wilderness. They were later spotted by hikers in a remote area carrying camping gear.
A huge manhunt was launched for the two. DiMaggio’s tent was spotted from the air by law enforcement. They later dropped officers into the area who immediately confronted Dimaggio who reportedly put up substantial resistance. An FBI officer is reportedly fatally shot Dimaggio.
Hannah is reported to be OK and undergoing an evaluation at an Idaho hospital. The sheriff of San Diego County said she would be reunited with her grandmother and father as soon as possible. Both are mourning the death of eight year old Ethan Anderson who perished in a house fire believed set by DiMaggio. Hana’s mother also perished in the flames in the house owned by DiMaggio. It is not known whether Hannah knew that her brother and mother had died in the fire.
