Austin Merrill wins KSHL Texaco Country Showdown

The 32nd Annual Texaco Country Showdown local competition, presented by Toby Murry Toyota, concluded by naming Austin Merrill as the winner. America’s largest country music talent search and radio promotion was held at the Toledo Summer Festival. This win marks completion of the first step in the prestigious national contest.

Austin Merrill’s combination of musical talent, stage presence, charisma, musicianship and originality caught the attention of judges including, Laramie Ward, Wanda Robeson and Stephanie Schriner.

On September 21st at Three Rivers Casino and Hotel in Florence, Austin will advance to the state final of the Texaco Country Showdown vying for $1000 and the opportunity to perform at one of five regional competitions in the fall. Regional winners receive an all-expense paid trip to the National Final, exuding talent and energy in their performances to compete for the $100,000 Grand Prize and the National Title.

Austin Merrill is a singer/songwriter from Bend, OR. Country music has been a life-long passion of Austins. Growing up on the sounds of Shenandoah, Vince Gill, and Alabama just to name a few, he has had that country tone stuck in his head for 22 years, and he knows now that it will never leave! The opportunity to perform and have an emotional impact on someone through song, especially an original song, is an unbelievable experience and blessing for Austin. “Music is such a powerful tool, and I always strive to write my songs with the listener in mind. For me, sharing my music with others is happiness at its best, so please check out my artist page on TexacoCountryShowdown.com, and please listen to my song “Emily”. I keep my Facebook page up-to-date on all my upcoming shows, and “Emily” is also available on iTunes.”
