Performers from Portland and Salem join local musicians for KYAQ Summer FunRaiser Saturday, August 10 at Port of Toledo Waterfront Park
Salsa! Jazz! Bluegrass! Bellydance! Put your dancing shoes on and spend a fun-filled summer evening enjoying an eclectic lineup of great music. Listen, dance, eat, drink and be merry, all while helping to raise funds to launch KYAQ, 91.7 FM, public radio for Lincoln County.
Salsa DJ Carlos Banderos may not play his own music but his spinning of discs is a total performance experience designed to get everyone moving. He’ll weave his spicy music around the live music performances of the evening.
Coming from Portland is Faerabella (pronounced “fair-a-bella”), a dark cabaret and jazz ensemble, taking influence from the light classics of the turn of the 20th century, and from the arranged standards of the early swing era. Their music is all original. Most Faerabella songs are about mysterious or sinister characters, crime and romance.
In addition to their own performance, Faerabella will provide the music that moves Zephyr, a tribal fusion improv bellydance duo from Salem. Zephyr welcomes area bellydancers to join in the improve swing and sway.
Lincoln County’s own Lucky Gap String Band will have everyone tapping their toes with Good Old-Time Traditional Americana and Bluegrass. Their high energy, tight harmonies and fun-loving personalities are guaranteed to send everyone dancing into the night.
Where there’s music there must be food and drink, so the evening will offer A TASTE OF TOLEDO. Pizza Me and Cobblestone Pizza will both make special pizzas for the event, Holy Toledo Tavern will pour craft beer from Blue Moon and Deschutes breweries. Newport Rental offers shave-ice snow cones. Scrumptious cupcakes will come from Gracie Mae’s bakery. These generous establishments are donating their wares so that all proceeds from food and drink sales will go towards getting KYAQ on the air.
Bring your lawn chairs or blankets, sunscreen, and your checkbooks. Admission to this event is free, just like the airwaves on which KYAQ will broadcast; but for KYAQ to get on the air and provide programming to serve Lincoln County takes financial and volunteer support. These wonderful entertainers and local businesses have donated to make this event happen – hopefully they will inspire you to donate too.
