WALDPORT: A one-mile section of Canal Creek Road [Forest Road 3462], beginning at Highway 34, will be closed from August 12 through 20 due to road construction. Canal Creek Road is located seven miles east of Waldport.
“This road closure is necessary to improve the stability of Canal Creek Road,” said Michele Jones, District Ranger for the Central Coast Ranger District and Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. “The work will include constructing a retaining wall which will improve the road for years to come,” she added.
The closure will affect local residents as well as visitors to the Canal Creek Campground. East and west detour routes are available from Canal Creek Road beyond the closure back to Highway 34.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause travelers, but these repairs are necessary to insure safe passage on this key road,” said Jones. “We are committed to providing residents and visitors a map and signs along the way to help them navigate the detour,” she added.
