Governor Kitzhaber beating the drum louder: Reduce PERS, raise revenues for schools either with sales tax or statewide property tax
Governor Kitzhaber continues his round the state trek to drum up support for increasing the state’s investment in K-12 education. Kitzhaber is talking in terms of further reducing PERS costs while raising taxes – either through a sales tax, which has never been popular, or a statewide property tax, which would be far more stable a source of revenue, but which is equally unpopular.
