Two young Benton County children were injured, one critically, Monday night in an accident that might not have happened had standard safety precautions been followed.
On Monday evening, July 29, 2013, at about 7:15 PM, Benton County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to farm near West Ingram Island Road for a call of a crash involving an all-terrain vehicle (ATV). Two children were riding on private property when they lost control of their ATV and crashed. Angel Cuevas, eight years old, was driving the vehicle and his older brother, Alan Cuevas, eleven years old, was riding with him on the back of the vehicle. Neither child was wearing protective helmets or protective gear.
Alan sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to Riverbend Hospital in Springfield. Angel was transported Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis for treatment of his injuries
The Benton County Sheriff’s Office would like to take this opportunity to remind residents to always wear protective gear when operating off road vehicles. Children operating off road vehicles should be supervised by an experienced adult.
