WalMart and KSHL 97.5 FM Partner to Help Abused Children
WalMart and KSHL 97.5 FM radio have partnered in support of the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC). You can purchase a “CAC Sack” at the Newport WalMart that contains items needed by the Center. The grocery sacks contain nutritious snacks, juices, art therapy supplies, journals, puzzles, toys, hats, scarves, gloves and other items chosen by the Center. Each bag is labeled with its contents and price. Sacks are located at the Wall of Giving by the check-out stands. Prices range from $12.00 – $50.00 each. Depending on need, there may be larger items at different times.
Keri Mills of KSHL, visited the Children’s Advocacy Center recently. She toured the Center and learned about the important role that the Center plays in helping child victims of abuse through evaluation, support and counseling. Keri contacted Stacy Mitchell, Manager of WalMart, about her desire to help the kids in Lincoln County and to make this important community project happen. Stacy says, “WalMart is pleased to leverage its business and products to support the Center and help change the lives of those local children in need.” KSHL 97.5 FM is running announcements throughout each day to encourage the community to support the Center and the CAC Sacks project. And, Bigfoot Beverages generously donated the banner for the Wall of Giving.
The Children’s Advocacy Center serves all Lincoln County. The child-focused center is designed to create a sense of safety and security for the children. The CAC emphasizes the coordination of investigation and intervention services by bringing together professionals and agencies as a multidisciplinary team to create a child-focused approach to child abuse cases. The Center provides forensic interviews and medical evaluations conducted by specially trained professionals and intervention services including child and family support, and counseling. The Center recognizes and responds to the need for specialized mental health treatment for child abuse victims and has focused on treatments that have a proven track record for victims of trauma. All services provided at the Center are without charge to the families. The CAC a has as one of its goals to stop abuse before it happens. This year the Center began community-wide Darkness to Light “Stewards of Children” trainings to educate, raise awareness, and teach what can be done to prevent abuse from occurring.
The Children’s Advocacy Center is grateful to WalMart, KSHL 97.5 FM, and Bigfoot Beverages for their support. For more information regarding the project or the “Stewards of Children” trainings contact the Center at 541-574-0841. You can make a difference in these children’s lives.
