Sunday night at approximately 2:00AM Officer Aaron Pitcher of the Toledo Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a 1991 Chevy Cavalier with Idaho license plates. Officer Pitcher stopped the vehicle after observing traffic violations in the 700 Block of NW 5th Street.
While speaking to the driver, who was identified as Shathen B. Delacruz, 19, from Aberdeen, Idaho, Officer Pitcher was able to smell a strong odor of Marijuana emanating from the vehicle.
Officer Pitcher was able to obtain consent to search Mr. Delacruz’s vehicle and located several marijuana plants in the trunk of the vehicle.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Mr. Delacruz’s vehicle passenger, Mr. Lakota Bayya, 19 of Siletz for Felony Possession and Manufacture of Marijuana. Mr. Delacruz was also taken into custody on the same charges.
Both suspects were lodged in the Lincoln County Jail in Newport.
Two garbage sacks of marijuana were seized with a preliminary weight of 13 pounds.
The investigation into this incident is continuing.
