Playing with Food: Kids Cooking Classes
Tell your child, “Okay, go ahead, play with your food. It’s fine!”
The Newport Parks and Recreation Department will be holding Cooking Classes for Kids ages 5-8 August 5-7th 2pm-3:30pm. This three day class is $35 and is designed to get kids in the kitchen and cooking whether it is their first time or not. Kids will be able to taste, play, and experiment with different foods while learning skills such as mixing, measuring, manners, kitchen rules, food art and preparation etc. Kids are encouraged to let their imagination soar and create food art that looks and tastes delicious. By the end of classes, kids will become more confident in the kitchen and be able to make their own fun tasty treats.
The first day is beach themed and the kids will make cheesy crab croissants and m&m fish cup cakes. The second days theme is Over the Rainbow and the kids will be making fruit rainbows and colorful caterpillars. The third days theme is Playing with Food where kids will be able to take what they learned from the first days to create their own waffle face masterpiece and fruit sculpture! Kids will also learn basic kitchen safety during these classes like “don’t lick your fingers” all the way to knife safety. Please register at Newport Parks and Recreation Center!
