Rick Graff Named Grand Marshall of the 2013 Toledo Summer Festival Parade
The Toledo Chamber of Commerce has named Rick Graff as 2013 Toledo Summer Festival Parade Grand Marshall to honor his years of community service. He was chosen for his leadership roles and volunteerism efforts. He has demonstrated outstanding service and unselfish dedication contributing to the betterment of Toledo High School sports programs.
As President of the Toledo Sports Complex Committee, Rick’s long history of volunteerism includes his spearheading efforts to get the Toledo High’s sports complex built. Rick envisioned what it could look like when there was nothing but a hill. He envisioned grand stands, lights, and a real field. Rick, along with other community leaders worked together to get a bond measure passed to get the complex built. Included with that bond measure was construction of the Toledo softball and baseball fields also known as the “fields of dreams”. A plaque was presented to Rick as “Rick’s Dream” while the sod was being laid for the field.
Rick organized an annual Toledo High alumni football game for 15 years, which helped sponsor the Toledo High’s football program. When the school district dropped funding for middle school sports Rick picked up the ball and started the Toledo Junior League Football. For the first few years the Toledo teams were the County’s football champions. Recently Rick stepped down as President and now serves in an advisory role.
Rick is currently serving his second term as a Port of Toledo Commissioner. He served on the Port of Toledo Budget Committee for 8 years prior to his election as a Port of Toledo Commissioner. He is currently President of the Port of Toledo.
Rick and Jackie started Advertee’s 28 years ago and have been in Toledo on Main Street for the past 16 years. Their son Jeremy was raised in Toledo and is a local business owner and his children all go to Toledo schools. Rick and Jackie both feel that the more you give to a community the more you receive.
Rick’s hobbies include fishing and hunting. As Rick “The Sturgeon Slayer” Graff, money was raised for Toledo High through raffle drawings for fishing trips with the Sturgeon Slayer.
Rick has been a long time Toledo Booster Club member. For the past 28 years Rick has been an active member and has also served on the Booster’s Board. In 1992, Rick created the current Toledo boomer mascot. Several years ago when the Toledo Booster Club was struggling financially, Rick, Lance White, and Mike Petersen suggested that providing a signature food item to the fans during sporting events could create some additional revenue for the Booster Club and that’s when it all began; the birth of the Boomer Burger. Today the Boomer Burger continues to generate revenue and remains a legend among our students, fans, and friends. You can try one of these famous Boomer Burgers at the 2013 Toledo Summer Festival.
