From Lincoln City Police
During the annual 4th of July fireworks show in Lincoln City, members of the Lincoln City Police Department assisted by Newport Police Department and Toledo Police Department were busily patrolling the beaches, streets and various neighborhoods to ensure a safe and fun filled holiday for all.
Between the hours of 6:00 PM and midnight, there were special enforcement teams detailed in Cutler City, Taft and Roads End. This was in addition to enhanced patrols throughout the city. During the six (6) hours, officers seized approximately 435 pounds of illegal fireworks. Most of these fireworks were purchased in Washington State by either residents of Lincoln City or residents of Washington visiting our city.
In the Taft area, hundreds of people were on hand to enjoy the fireworks display beginning at 10:00 PM. During the evening, there was one arrest (outstanding warrant) and one medical call (fall). After the fireworks show, traffic was congested from the Taft area. Most of the traffic congestion was for north-bound Hwy 101. Traffic returned to normal at about 11:30 PM.
The seized fireworks will be held for the Oregon State Police Bomb Squad who will destroy the illegal fireworks.
