KYAQ project manager Alan Searle will speak about Lincoln County’s soon to be “on the air” public radio station at the July meeting of the Central Oregon Coast Chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW). The meeting will take place on Monday, July 15, 2013 at 6 p.m. at the Central Lincoln PUD meeting room, 2129 North Coast Highway, Newport, Oregon. The public is invited to attend.
Searle has extensive radio experience, including over 20 years in public radio in Minnesota. He left radio broadcasting about 11 years ago because it had lost its excitement for him. However, when the opportunity to be in on the ground floor of starting a new public radio station in Lincoln County, where he and his wife own and operate Brenalan Farm, he couldn’t turn it down.
Because KYAQ is a public radio station it will offer different programming than other local stations. The station is currently offering training so that members of the community will be comfortable hosting many of the programs. Searle will talk about what makes KYAQ unique and different ways people can participate. There will be time for questions.
After Searle’s talk there will be a Central Oregon Coast NOW “Planning for Action” brainstorming session facilitated by member Terri Wood. The discussion will focus on what activities the Chapter will pursue during the coming year, as well as topics for speakers. This will be one of our most important meetings of the year and everyone’s input (including non-members) is needed.
