Siletz Fire and Rescue responded to a report this week of a car fire, at Shasta Court and Judd Street, that was quickly getting out of control. While fire units were enroute, the driver and his passenger jumped out of the car to safety while a neighbor showed up with a fire extinguisher. The neighbor sprayed the flaming engine until the extinguisher ran out.
Fire units pulled up and quickly doused the fire but by then the car was a total loss. The owner, Tays Salazar of Siletz said he heard a “pop” from under the hood, saw smoke and then flame. His 1985 Ford convertible was a complete loss. Salazar lamented that he had just purchased the car the day before.
