Only thing luckier than the dog in the road was the two drivers. No injuries.
Oregon State Police say a pickup driver slowed down to avoid hitting a dog on Highway 101 at Grebe Street in Seal Rock this afternoon . But in so doing he was quickly rear-ended by a cargo truck coming up behind him. The impact catapulted the pickup forward and across the southbound lane, taking out a real estate sign and coming to rest in the ditch on the west side of the highway. The driver didn’t show any visible signs of any injuries serious enough to send him to the hospital, according to OSP Troopers.
When the cargo truck smashed into the right rear of the pickup it caused the truck to careen off the highway to the right, coming to rest after hitting the south side of the Hauser Gallery porch. The impact took out flower boxes, a veranda support post and broke windows in the front of the gallery. The veranda roof was also gouged by the top of the truck’s cargo box.
Driver of the large truck was cited for following too closely, causing the accident. The truck looked to be pretty well totalled. Depending on the skill of the body shop, the classic pickup that was hit may live to drive to drive another day, that is if they can straighten it back out.
