Living Well with Chronic Conditions Volunteer Leaders Needed for Lincoln County
Are you living with a chronic health condition, or caring for someone who does, and enjoy helping others? Then we need you!
Living Well with Chronic Conditions is a six-week workshop that provides tools for living a healthy life with chronic health conditions; including diabetes, arthritis, asthma and heart disease. Through weekly sessions, the workshop provides support for continuing normal daily activities and dealing with the emotions that chronic conditions may bring about.
A four-day Living Well with Chronic Conditions leader training is being offered this summer to certify community volunteers to co-lead this important program for people living with a chronic health condition or someone who is caring for another person with chronic conditions.
Dates for the training are July 29 & 30 and August 5 & 6, 2013. The training is scheduled from 9 am to 5 pm at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital (525 N Santiam Hwy, Lebanon, OR). There is no cost to attend this training and trainees are required to attend all four full-day sessions. To register or request a training packet, please call 541-272-7243 or email@example.com.
Walk With Ease Class Begins in Newport
Walking is a healthy form of exercise that is beneficial for many people. Walking can help you gain all the benefits of exercise, including weight loss and stress relief. Walking is easy to do and does not require a gym membership, fancy shoes or equipment, or special training. You can do it with friends, loved ones, your pet, or on your own.
Walk With Ease is an evidenced-based six-week self-management program developed by the Arthritis Foundation and has been proven to be beneficial for anyone looking for a gentle exercise program. The program was developed for adults with arthritis who want to be more physically active. Walk With Ease is led by a trained leader and includes health education, stretching and strengthening exercises and motivational strategies, as well as 10 – 30 minutes of walking. The program will teach you how to safely make physical activity part of your everyday life.
Scientific studies show that the Walk With Ease program is proven to help:
Reduce the pain and discomfort of arthritis
Increase balance, strength and walking pace
Build confidence in your ability to be physically active
Improve overall health
The six-week Walk With Ease program will be offered this summer, beginning July 1, at the Newport 60+ Activity Center and co-sponsored by the Partnership for Chronic Disease Management of Lincoln County and Lincoln County’s Tobacco Prevention and Education Program. Please call 541-272-7243 or 541-265-0405 for class schedule and to register.
