Letter to the Editor:
From League of Women Voters
The ballots have been mailed and now it is time to vote. The League of Women Voters of Lincoln County supports a “yes” vote on Measure 21-151, which will create the Children’s Trust of Lincoln County, a dedicated fund for children’s programs in our county.
Over the years our local League has conducted a number of studies on the needs of our county’s children, and on the availability of services to meet those needs. We have concluded that programs to provide these services are necessary for the welfare and future of our children, and adequate and reliable funding for these services is essential.
Many programs in the county have suffered cutbacks because of reduced and uncertain funding from state and federal sources. We have the power through this measure to ensure dependable funding of children’s services with local control and accountability. The tax rate of 19 cents per $1,000 assessed value will provide $1.2 million per year for children’s programs. That money will be allocated by a citizen’s committee with clear criteria and responsible oversight.
Please support our community’s children by voting “yes” on Measure 21-151. However you decide to vote on this and the other measures and candidates on your ballot, support democracy by voting.
