The Coast Guard has been talking by radio to the Captain of the Fishing Vessel Leila B that is reported to be adrift two miles off the beach, just north of Waldport. The conversations indicate that there are two people aboard.
A call to all mariners in the area to assist the Leila B was met with no answer.
The Coast Guard has just radioed the Leila B that a 47 foot Coast Guard motor lifeboat is being dispatched to the scene. Usually their first task is to see if they can get the Leila B’s motor going again. If they can’t, the motor lifeboat can tow the Leila B back to Newport.
The Leila B is a 38 foot wooden fishing boat made in 1945, originally built for the U.S. Navy. Registration records show the Leila B is owned by Stacy Ross of Siletz.
