Stamp Out Hunger This Saturday in Lincoln County!
Last year, the Newport Food Pantry & Operation Snackpacks distributed 200,000
pounds of emergency food to people in need. Thanks to the Letter Carriers Food Drive,
now in its 21st year, helping your hungry friends, neighbors and school children is as
easy as walking to your mailbox.
Simply purchase non-perishable food items during your regular shopping trip and put them in a secure bag or box. This Saturday in Newport, Toledo, Lincoln City place the bag near your mail box around the time of your regular delivery. Your postal carrier will take it from there. All donations will help the local food pantries in each city.
“The problem of hunger in our community has never been greater. 110 school children receive weekend food through Operation Snackpacks and over 700 individuals come to the pantry each month for help. Support from each community is essential to feed those in need.” said Katherine Myers, Executive Director of the Newport Food Pantry. “Every item helps. Products that are always welcome include canned meats, canned fruits, peanut butter, cereal, canned vegetables, and canned ready-to-eat meals.”
Money donations are also needed in order to meet regular expenses and purchase additional food. For information about Stamp Out Hunger, contact the Newport Post Office 541-574-6746 or the Newport Food Pantry at 541-270-0842.
