A small fire erupted Sunday evening at the Embarcadero Resort on Bay Boulevard in Newport. Newport firefighters quickly ran hoses into the building and knocked the fire down.
Within 45 minutes or so, residents were allowed back into their rooms. An investigation was launched as to what ignited the interior wall materials. Some of the burned and partially burned debris was retrieved in hopes of revealing clues. Assistant Chief Rob Murphy said they need to examine the fire debris and burned area of the wall in hopes of figuring out what happened. He said the investigation will continue Monday morning.
Just prior to the fire call at the Embarcadero, a dryer fire erupted at a building next to the public restrooms at Southwest 9th and Southwest Hurbert. That situation was quickly handled by another engine crew who then joined the others down at the Embarcadero.
