The Newport Loyalty Days and Sea Fair Festival rolled out it’s 56th year of celebration our loyalty to our country with it’s traditional Loyalty Days Parade under an unusually hot Spring sun. The superb warm weather really brought out the crowds this year, from the starting gun for the Coast Hills Running Club to the wrap up last blast of what you don’t want to see in your rear view mirror…red lights and sirens.
There were floats and groups from all over the region, folks enjoying being in the parade that shut down Highway 101, as it does every year, from Walmart to the Downtown. Loyalty Days events began with the traveling Field of Honor 1,000 American Flags exhibit that set up near PCH. A veterans honoring organization also awarded Oregon Service Medals as authorized by the State of Oregon for Oregonians who served in our military and were honorably discharged. Friday night there was the annual “Reading of the Names” of Oregon’s lost service men and women who served in the Vietnam War and are no longer with us.
Sunday, the Davis Show Carnival at the South Beach Marina will be offering fun for the whole family from noon to 8pm. At 10am the Coast HIlls Classic Mountain Bike Race 2013 rolls up and down the hillsides of South Beach and the American Legion Post #116 holds an open house from 2-4pm at 424 W. Olive.
