Newport Seafood & Wine Festival’s Commercial Wine Competition entered its 27th year with 168 wines submitted for the 2013 contest. The competition was held February 8 and 9, about two weeks before the Newport Seafood and Wine Festival.

An elite panel of judges who have worked together for two decades were Brooks Tish, Loren Razzano, Georgia Ross, Gerry Warren and Thomas “Mac” McLaren. They are experienced wine writers, wine buyers, and retail merchants.

The Commercial Wine Competition is the longest continuously running contest of its kind in the Northwest.

This year a total of 29 gold medals, 35 silver medals and 40 bronze medals were awarded to new and returning wineries to the Festival. 60 wineries entered a total of 168 different wines.

Best of Show was Spangler Vineyards’ 2010 Grenache, a winery from Roseburg, Oregon.
