Deputies from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office are investigating an explosion that occurred around 4:00 am this morning at 5140 NW Hwy 99, just north of the city limits of Corvallis. Deputies were not notified of the incident until 7:15 am.
Residents contacted in the area reported hearing what they described as a loud firecracker. The blast occurred on the road inside of a trailer park at the above location. The discharge caused damage to several vehicles and a trailer due to the concussive effect of the blast as well as debris from the road. The explosive device does not appear to have any material that could be described as intentional shrapnel. There is no clear motive for the incident and no suspects have been identified. No injuries have been reported.
The Oregon State Police Bomb squad was notified and Corvallis Fire Department responded to the assist in the investigation.
At this time, no further description of the explosive device will be given due to investigative purposes.
